As a Rheumatology consultative practice we specialize in diagnosing and treating common arthritis conditions as well as complicated autoimmune conditions. Treatment frequently requires management with medications, working in conjunction with other doctors, and patient involvement in making lifestyle changes. This process may require regular visits, as well as occasional blood work and imaging studies.
Ultrasound has been used in medicine for the last few decades, and for the last 10 years has gained prominence in Europe in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The last few years physicians in the US have started to utilize musculoskeletal ultrasound as well.
Dr Tambar uses ultrasound to help diagnosis various joint, tendon, and nerve related pathology, as well as to follow the disease course in conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. Furthermore, he uses it to more specifically target injections which can be used in the treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders.
If conservative treatment is not controlling your pain, or you have significant functional impairment due to your arthritis or tendinitis, there are a number of other non-surgical treatment options available.
Steroid injections are used in the treatment of various joint diseases and nerve entrapment conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Using ultrasound enables precise localization of medication thus resulting in more targeted therapy. Compared to performing injections blindly, injecting with ultrasound guidance is more targeted, more effective, less painful, and safer.
Hyaluronic acid injections are a new treatment for osteoarthritis. The medications are synthetic joint lubricant that in the majority of patients result in long lasting pain relief. These injections do not reverse existing damage, they can however give significant pain relief.
Regenerative medicine is a burgeoning field in the treatment of arthritis. We're excited to offer treatments such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to our patient.
Some medications are delivered by intravenous infusion that is given either in your physician's office or in the hospital. Osteoporosis infusions allow treatmentof thinning bones and prevention of fratures with a once a year infusion. If you have osteoporosis this may be an appropriate option for your condition.
The newer medications for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and Psoriatic Arthritis have dramatically improved the lives of patients with these diseases. There are a number of newer treatments available for patients with these conditions. Some treatments are available by self-injectable injections patients can take at home, others are given via an intravenous infusion in your doctor's office. If you have any of the above arthritis conditions you may be a candidate for one of these medications.
